UNICOM x UNICEF #THISABILITY ROADSHOW

Launch of #ThisAbility truck to create awareness on Children with Disabilities

PETALING JAYA, 20 March 2018 – Educating the public on inclusion and promoting the rights of Children with Disabilities will now be made easier thanks to Unicom Event Marketing’s (Unicom) collaboration with UNICEF on a roving #ThisAbility roadshow, to turn Disability into #ThisAbility.

With the sponsorship of a special #ThisAbility truck in partnership with UNICEF, creating awareness on Children with Disabilities across Malaysia will now be possible, further showing the role of the private sector in ensuring children everywhere are protected.

According to a UNICEF report Childhood Disability in Malaysia: A study of knowledge, attitudes, and practices released in 2017, six in ten people surveyed indicated they do not have enough information on Children with Disabilities. These children and their families also face stigma and discrimination at home, in schools, and in other environments in Malaysia.

It is with this in mind that Unicom worked with UNICEF on this special, one-of-a-kind #ThisAbility truck, thus ensuring to protect the rights of every child, to invest in their well-being, and to give every child a good start in life.

Launched today to positive reception at 1Utama Shopping Centre, the #ThisAbility truck will be equipped to travel to towns and cities around Klang Valley, Penang, Johor and the East Coast over the next three months and will continue to collect further survey data whilst promoting inclusion and the rights of Children with Disabilities.

Present at the launch of the #ThisAbility truck were representatives from Unicom and UNICEF, as well as Lisa Surihani, the National Ambassador for UNICEF and a huge advocate for child rights. Also present were Unicom’s generous sponsors, namely 1Utama, Skylark, Dot2dot and Borneo Creative.

Unicom is inspired by UNICEF’s belief that “All children have a right to survive, thrive, and fulfill their potential – to the benefit of a better world”, thereby inspiring more people to build a brighter future #foreverychild.
